Lightweight Drew Dober put on a dominant performance at UFC Lincoln on Saturday, securing a win over Jon Tuck. And despite speculation, he isn’t concerned about a possible broken foot.
Lincoln, NB — Local favorite Drew Dober picked up a big win at UFC Lincoln (UFC Fight Night 135) on Saturday, dominating opponent Jon Tuck for a full three rounds. The twenty-nine year old from Omaha has now won three straight, and he’s looking up at the top of the 155lb division, deep though it may be. Backstage following the event on Saturday, he discussed that, winning at home, and more.
“I’ll be honest,” Dober (21-8, 1NC) said of the victory, “a home state win is great for me, it’s surreal, it’s beautiful, it’s super nostalgic. But I’ll be honest with myself, it’s just one step on the ladder.” The other way of looking at it is “one opponent, random location. It’s just momentum, that’s what it is. Momentum forward, I’m going to keep going.”
Dober feels he can hang with anybody, and plans to “make a run for that belt” as he moves on in his career. Meanwhile, what fighting at home brought was “added emotion, added excitement, but it’s just another fight.” As the saying goes, “every fight is the biggest fight of your life.”
What he took from the bout in his native Nebraska, mainly, was to “enjoy every moment of it.”
“In the pit, in the locker room, in the walkout, first round, second round, just enjoy every single moment, he expanded. “Don’t think about last moments, don’t think about future moments, just enjoy every moment.”
As for opponent Tuck, “I knew going in what he was capable of. But like I said, I’m not intimidated of afraid of anyone’s weapons.” The fight boiled down, in Dober’s estimation, to “a physical chess match.” As for a submission scare, he added that “if I made the wrong move, he would have submitted me. I made the correct move, so I was able to get out of it.”
What’s next, meanwhile, is the top of the division. “I don’t have any individual name, but there’s a rank of ten guys that I have my eye on. You can choose any name on that top ten list. But I want to fight anyone and everyone.”
Also of note: while he admitted to limping a bit back stage, Dober does not believe his foot is broken, rather just a little bruised.
