For the second event in a row Efrain Escudero has blown weight. This time, his fight has been pulled from the PFL 5 card as a result.
It’s safe to say, at this point, that Efrain Escudero’s PFL run has been an unmitigated disaster. In his first bout of the MMA league’s regular season he missed weight for his fight with Jason High. That fight, at PFL 2, went forward at a 162lb catchweight. However after missing weight again at PFL 5, Escudero has been bounced from the event.
The Mexican lightweight (30-13) was expected to face Islam Mamedov at the event. Instead, he stepped on the scales at 163.2lbs for the official weigh-in. Escudero was not given a second chance to make the 156lb non-title fight lightweight limit.
With that but dropped from the card, PFL 5 is set to proceed with eight bouts. That includes the newly revamped main event of Jason High vs. Natan Schulte. High only recently stepped up to replace Brian Foster atop the Long Island card.
All other fighters made weight for the show. PFL 5 takes place Thursday at the Nassau Colisseum in Uniondale, NY. The event sees Cageside Press on hand to bring you full coverage of the action.
