In the co-main event on Saturday in Macau, women’s strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan went to work early, clinching with challenger Laura Balin and trading knees. Xiong would get the better of the exchange, a frequently theme throughout the fight. At times coming close to a stoppage, Argentina’s Balin proved game, staving off certain defeat with a heel hook at one point. Ultimately, however, it was a one-sided affair, with Xiong Jing Nan retaining her title in front of her Chinese fans.
A spirited main event, meanwhile, saw interim flyweight champ Geje Eustaquio taking it to Adriano Moraes early. An incredibly entertaining sequence to end the first round saw Eustaquio wrenching the champ up and throwing him down for a takedown. The back-and-forth battle would make it all the way to the fifth and final round, where Adriano Moraes immediately shot for a double leg, then caught Eustaquio in a guillotine. Eustaquio, however, pulled his head free in the close call, and looked to make space for some big punches from the top. Moraes would scramble to his feet, then roll for a leg lock as the pair went back down. Yet Geje Eustaquio’s perseverance in the fight, that saw him get the better of the striking exchanges and hold up in all areas, put him ahead. He’d earn the split decision win, defeating Adriano Moraes for the undisputed ONE flyweight championship!
