Another rising star will get a crack at wily veteran Cub Swanson, as he’ll meet Renato Moicano at UFC 227.
Cub Swanson will get back in the cage following his three-round loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC Atlantic City, this time throwing down with Renato Moicano. The bout is set to take place at UFC 227 in Los Angeles later this Summer. UFC officials announced the fight on social media Thursday afternoon, after an initial report from the Orange County Register.

On his current run, Cub Swanson (25–9) has lost two straight for just the second time in his career. In addition to April’s loss to Edgar in Atlantic City, Swanson was submitted in stunning fashion by Brian Ortega at UFC Fresno last December. That loss, however, snapped a four fight win streak that included a Fight of the Year against Doo-ho Choi.
Swanson remains one of the most talented, creative strikers in the featherweight division, and having recently signed a new deal with the UFC (prior to the Edgar bout), should be plenty motivated to get back in the win column.
Renato Moicano will be looking at a big step up in competition against Swanson (12-1-1). To date, his most notable win came in an upset split decision against Jeremy Stephens. Moicano went on to lose his next fight, a submission loss to Brian Ortega, before bouncing back with a win over Calvin Kattar.
UFC 227 takes place August 4, 2018 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. A bantamweight title fight rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt is expected to feature on the card.
