Holly Holm will take another stab at featherweight, opposite Megan Anderson.
Holly Holm isn’t done with the featherweight division just yet. Megan Anderson, meanwhile, is looking to join the party. First reported by the Chicago Tribune, Holm vs. Anderson has been set for UFC 225 in Chicago. The fight will pit the former UFC bantamweight champ, Holm, vs. the ex-Invicta FC featherweight champion. The fight will almost certainly serve as a title eliminator, with the fearsome Cris Cyborg looming in the distance.
For Holly Holm (11-4), it will be her first fight back since a valiant effort at UFC 219 against Cyborg. Holm lost a unanimous decision that night, but went toe-to-toe with Cyborg and held her own. She unquestionably proved to be the Brazilian’s toughest test to date, and would no doubt like a third crack at the 145lb throne. Her first, of course, came in an ill-fated, controversial fight against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208. Holm is 1-3 in her last four, with losses to Miesha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko at bantamweight. Her lone win in that span came against Bethe Correia, also at 135lbs.
Megan Anderson (8–2), meanwhile, will look to keep her four fight win streak from Invicta FC going against Holm. Anderson was signed by the UFC nearly a year ago as an opponent for Cyborg. However, personal matters forced her out of the originally planned bout, and have kept her sidelined since. In Holm, she gets a hefty challenge for her promotional debut.
UFC 225 takes place at the Allstate Arena in Chicago on June 9.
