ONE Championship: Iron Will went down Saturday, and you can check out the best of the action in our gallery of selected highlights!
Martin Nguyen had a chance to make history at Saturday’s ONE Championship: Iron Will in Bangkok, Thailand. Unfortunately for Nguyen, who holds the promotion’s featherweight and lightweight titles, his attempt to claim the bantamweight crown came up just short. Instead, reigning champion Bibiano Fernades was able to stave the Australian off, retaining his 135lb crown via a split decision.
Nguyen will have to settle with just two championship belts, but not for lack of effort.
Iron Will also saw the debut of grappling ace Gary Tonon. Tonon is a highly touted prospect in MMA who understands all facets of the game, and he showed that in Bangkok. Opponent Richard Corminal managed to escape the first round, but Tonon had his number and finished him off via TKO in the second.
Elsewhere on the ONE Championship: Iron Will card, heavyweight Alain Ngalani moved to 205lbs to earn a split decision victory. A few more could see him earn a rematch with with middleweight and light heavyweight champion Aung La N Sang, who defeated Ngalani at heavyweight several months back.
