Patricky Pitbull made it three in a row Friday at Bellator 194, stopping Derek Campos via TKO early in the first.
Bellator 194 went down Friday night, live from Uncasville, CT’s Mohegan Sun Arena. While the Bellator World Heavyweight Grand Prix got the bulk of the attention, the promotion brought with it a solid card. That included a lightweight co-main event featuring promotional stalwart Patricky Freire (better known as Patricky Pitbull) taking on Derek Campos.
Freire’s younger brother Patricio serves as the promotion’s featherweight champion, yet Patricky had fallen short in an earlier title opportunity against Michael Chandler (in 2016, for the then-vacant lightweight title). Now, with wins over Josh Thompson and Benson Henderson in his last two outings, Pitbull was looking to secure a shot at the winner of Chandler vs. Brent Primus.
Campos, meanwhile, entered the night off a four fight win streak, having most recently defeated standout Brandon Girtz.
It was Campos who went on the attack early Friday, but Pitbull quickly answered back with a heavy leg kick that spun Campos around. The Brazilian then tagged Campos with an uppercut off a combo, but Campos walked through it. Another big leg kick from Pitbull followed. The pair of lightweights were throwing hard, and Campos connected with Pitbull only to be tagged himself! Right on the side of the face, and Campos was stunned. The action carried on briefly, but Pitbull smelled blood in the water. He followed up with an uppercut, then a flurry of strikes as Campos stumbled backward. Eventually, Campos covered up, and the ref called it off.
