‘The Spider’ has a response to anyone saying he’s been on steroids: my body never changed.
Anderson Silva has been awaiting his fate, along with the rest of us, since a drug test failure prior to UFC Shanghai. Now, the UFC legend has spoken out, and claims he has never used steroids in his life. He’s currently awaiting a decision from the U.S. Anti-Doping agency (USADA), and says it could come soon.
“Maybe next month” he told TMZ recently. He added that all of his doctors and lawyers were co-operating with the UFC’s anti-doping partner. The UFC has utilized USADA for its drug testing since July 1, 2015.
“I’m very excited” Silva said, saying that he expects to be back soon. He also said he “absolutely” expects to win his case.
When asked point blank if he had used performance enhancing drugs, Silva answered simply: “No, nothing, never in my life.”
As evidence, he pointed out that “my body never changed.” Silva would later add that “I’m very confident about my size, because I never used steroids in my life.” When reminded that it was his second drug test failure (the first came following his fight with Nick Diaz back in 2015), he said “I know, but the first time, I tried to respond about everything, and my lawyers failed, it’s not my fault. Because I tried to explain everything, but nothing happened.”
Asked if he’d be taking a different approach to his defense this time, the answer was was “Yes, Absolutely.”
“The fight is my life” Silva said, and indicated he wasn’t sure what he’d do is USADA suspended him for two years. “I need to wait for the USADA decision, but I’m very excited for [coming] back.”
When and where that happens remains to be seen, but it sounds as if we should know more soon.
