Rob Font opened the UFC 220 PPV card in style in Boston on Saturday!
UFC 220 marked the eighth time that Thomas Almeida made the walk to the UFC octagon, and the seventh time for opponent Rob Font. The two met in the opening bout of the UFC 220 main card. The event took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday night.
Both fighters came out quick, leading to Font driving Almeida into the cage and landing a nice shot on the break. Font again drove Almedia into the cage; Almeida broke free and the two exchanged shots. Font flashed a strong right and looked to be getting off first early. Almeida started to land more counters, and a strong left hook. Almeida started to get his movement working, but Font countered with the jab. Almeida fired back with a shot that looked to hurt Font to end the round.
In the second, Rob Font came out with a burst of speed, with Almeida firing back leg kicks. Font landed a strong 1-2 punch and followed with a shot to the temple that rocked Almeida, sending him falling back into the cage. A scrable saw Almeida survive, but Font was right back on him firing shots. Almeida had lost some of his movement, and Font caught Almedia with a head kick dropping him to the mat, and swarming for the stoppage. What a start to the UFC 220 card!
