Bellator 192 goes down Friday in Los Angeles — don’t miss the promotion’s World Heavyweight Grand Prix press conference ahead of the event!
On Friday, Bellator MMA will host a live press conference for the Bellator World Heavyweight Grand Prix 2018. The eight man tournament, featuring the likes of Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson, Frank Mir, Matt Mitrione, Fedor Emelianenko, and more kicks off at Bellator 192 on Saturday. That night, at The Forum in Los Angeles, Chael Sonnen will face Rampage Jackson in the evening’s main event, marking the opening bout of the Grand Prix.
When all is said and done, the tournament will finish roughly a year from now, with the winner crowned Bellator’s new heavyweight champion. The biggest belt in the promotion has been undefended for years, after former champion Vitaly Minakov became embroiled in a contract dispute with the company. Since then, Minakov has fought multiple times in Europe, remaining undefeated. He last fought for Bellator at Bellator 115, defeating Cheick Kongo. Since that night in April 2014, the heavyweight title has been awol. Now, at long last, the division is getting back on track.
The press conference kicks off at 6PM EST — be sure to check back, as Bellator CEO Scott Coker and a number of participants are expected to be on hand.
Update, 8PM EST: Sorry folks, Bellator opted to do away with today’s press conference. Moose out front should have told ya!
