UFC fans favoring violent scraps take note: ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry is set to return to the octagon.
Hinted at for weeks by the fighter himself, Mike Perry finally has a fight official for UFC on FOX 28. More commonly known as UFC Orlando, Perry will be going up against none other than Max ‘Pain’ Griffin. Perry had hinted on The MMA Hour that he was looking at a fight for the UFC Orlando card. He had, in fact, signed the agreement. While he was mum on the name of his opponent, Griffin later confirmed that he was the opponent in question.
Perry (11-2) has gone 4-2 in the UFC to date, with two Performance of the Night awards in that stretch. All of his wins have come via finish. He’ll enter UFC on FOX 28 against Max Griffin coming off just the second loss of his pro career, against Santiago Ponzinibbio. That came at UFC Winnipeg in December. Both of Perry’s losses have come via decision. His finishing rate — 11 out of 11, all KO/TKO stoppages — have kept him a popular fighter among fans.
Max Griffin, meanwhile, will look the bring the pain to Perry. Griffin (13-4) is just 1-2 in the octagon, but has seven KO/TKO finishes of his own in addition to two subs. He last fought at UFC Fight Night 119 in Brazil, losing to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos.
UFC Orlando takes place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida on February 24.
