Bellator 185: Mousasi vs. Shlemenko went down Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. In the main event, Gegard Mousasi held on after a clear-cut first round in his favor to steal a unanimous decision against “Storm” that had many in attendance questioning the judges’ sanity.
It was that sort of night Friday in Connecticut: despite their fight being a one-sided affair, one judge saw Ana Julaton earning a 29-28 against Lisa Blaine, who ultimately took home a split decision.
In the event’s other women’s flyweight bout, boxing star Heather Hardy endured a rough night, and a badly broken nose, eating kick after kick from newcomer Kristina Williams. By the second round, the ref had seen enough, and signaled for the doctor to take a look at Hardy. He waved off the fight, and the boxing champion was sent to hospital, missing the press scrum following the event.
She wasn’t alone: despite winning in the main event, Gegard Mousasi, who made his Bellator MMA debut on the night, was also absent, having gone to hospital to have a severely swollen eye tended to. Bellator MMA officials did not have an update on either fighter by the end of the evening, but it’s likely that both will be on the mend for a while.
