Cowboy Cerrone is back in action soon. After a potential fight involving Polish fighter Michal Materla against Thiago Santos fell through (Materla opted to re-sign with Poland’s KSW), the UFC has a new headliner targeted for UFC Gdansk. Donald Cerrone, otherwise known as Cowboy, will face Darren Till at the event. That’s according to an initial report by MMA Uno that was later confirmed by Cerrone himself.
The move wisely puts one of the UFC’s most popular, active fighters at the top of a card deeply in need of star power. It also marks a big step up for Till, who called for a big fight following last weekend’s UFC Rotterdamn.
UFC Gdansk, numerically, is UFC Fight Night 118, and takes place October 21 at the Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland.
Cowboy Cerrone will be looking to get back to his winning ways in the fight, and should enter the night a healthy favorite. Cerrone (32–9 (1)) is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his professional career, having dropped both his 2017 appearances. He suffered a TKO at the hands of Jorge Masvidal back in January, then lost a unanimous decision to Robbie Lawler at UFC 214.
For the undefeated Till, meanwhile, Cowboy is a definite rung up the ladder. At 15-0-1, Till, a UK native, has never tasted defeat, but is just now breaking through into the consciousness of fight fans. Cerrone is ranked sixth in the UFC’s official rankings at welterweight. Till is yet to be ranked.
