“Suga” Rashad Evans is going to give middleweight another try. The UFC announced today that the former light heavyweight champion will meet “Smilin'” Sam Alvey this August in Mexico. The bout will be part of UFC Fight Night Mexico City, taking place August 5 at the Arena Ciudad Del Mexico.
Evans (19–6–1) has lost three straight, and five of his last seven bouts in the UFC. A drop to middleweight at UFC 209 didn’t go his way, as he lost a split decision to Daniel Kelly. However, it appears Evans, who was pulled from a pair of fight cards due to MRI issues late last year, is not ready to call it a career just yet.
Alvey (30–9 (1)), a Wisconsin native and veteran of The Ultimate Fighter 16, is coming off a decision loss to Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 108 in April. Prior to that, he’d won four straight, including a unanimous decision against Nate Marquardt.
Flyweights Brandon Moreno and Sergio Pettis meet in the main event of the card.
