Middleweight gold will be on the line in a highly anticipated rematch in Cologne, Germany this Summar.

Oktagon MMA middleweight champ Kerim Engizek (24-5) will put his title on the line against Krzysztof Jotko (29-6, 1NC) at Oktagon 91 on July 11, 2026. The event takes place at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne.

News of the booking was announced via press release on Wednesday. The fight is an immediate rematch of the Tipsport Gamechanger Middleweight tournament finale this past January, which saw UFC vet Jotko submit Engizek in the opening round.

Jotko claimed €300,000 in prize money with the win, but what he did not claim was Engizek’s middleweight title, as it was not on the line. Now, Jotko can claim the glory alongside the gold as he looks to extend a five-fight win streak.

During his UFC run, Poland’s Jotko posted an 11-6 record, exiting the promotion off a single loss against Brendan Allen in 2022. He’d then move to the PFL, losing to future Oktagon champ Will Fleury, only for the result to be changed to a No Contest when Fleury failed a pre-fight drug test.

With that in mind, Jotko’s only losses in his last 12 fights, discounting the No Contest, have come to Allen and former UFC middleweight champ Sean Strickland.

Turkey’s Engizek is 6-1 under the Oktagon MMA banner, with the lone loss coming to Jotko. He defeated Patrik Kincl in his second fight with the promotion to capture the Oktagon MMA 185lb title.

Engizek fights out of Düsseldorf, Germany and will be looking to avenge a loss suffered in front of his fans at home back in January.

Oktagon MMA kicked off its 2026 on Saturday with Oktagon 82 in Dusseldorf, Germany, as the Tipsport Gamechanger Middleweight Tournament came to a close.

A name familiar to UFC fans was found in that final, as Polish middleweight vet Krzysztof Jotko faced Kerim Engizek for the big prize. In a reserve bout kicking off the night’s main card, meanwhile, another veteran, David Zawada, took on Daniel Ligocki.

Oktagon 82’s co-main event had possible title implications for the promotion’s featherweight division. That fight found Gjoni Palokaj having won five straight under the Oktagon banner and seven overall; he was going up against a former Cage Warriors title challenger in James Hendin.

A nine-year veteran of the UFC, Krzysztof Jotko made his promotional debut for Oktagon MMA earlier this year, defeating Ion Surdu in the opening round of the Tipsport Gamechanger middleweight tournament.

Jotko (26-6, 1NC) returns to action this Saturday at Oktagon 74 in Prague, Czech Republic, looking to advance to the semifinals.

Johnny Eblen, Bo Nickal, Abus Magomedov, and Josh Silveira among others have played a role in Jotko’s camp ahead of Oktagon 74, and he’s sounding confident ahead of his quarterfinal fight with Marek Mazuch.

“I’m ready to win this tournament,” Jotko told Cageside Press in a recent exclusive interview. “I come here to win this tournament. I don’t play.”

Oktagon MMA has become the frontrunner in European MMA, and has helped show that there is life after the UFC. That’s a sentiment Jotko agrees with.

“Absolutely. Absolutely. I think before Oktagon, the biggest organization in Europe was KSW, but I think KSW is now behind Oktagon. Oktagon is much higher right now, lot of people come to the events. They make amazing events with the stadium, the Frankfurt stadium, 60,000 [fans]… I can say behind the scenes, the hotel is good, the people who work there are very nice and helpful. It’s a very nice organization, I’m very happy to be there.”

It’s hard to view Jotko’s current position without looking back to his UFC run. He exited the promotion off a lone loss to Brendan Allen, who is now a contender in the middleweight division. He went 5-2 across his last seven fights inside the octagon, a respectable record, especially when you consider the other loss came against Sean Strickland, who would go on to become champion.

Jotko feels he’s been overlooked. In fact, he suggested he’s continued to be overlooked, even upon his arrival in Oktagon MMA.

“Yeah. This is what I- yeah. I don’t know, these people. Before the fight with Surdu, I was not even a favorite in the fight. So I was very, ‘oh my God.’ I talked to my friends, ‘hey, put your house on me, because I know I’m gonna win,'” recalled Jotko. “I don’t know what these people think, because for example my next opponent, okay he’s good, he has nine wins, three losses, but let’s see his fights, who he fights compared to me. Not even close. I know, but I don’t know if they know. It’s levels, it’s levels like everything.”

When it comes to his experience, Krzysztof Jotko has learned one key lesson. That comes down to belief. “I know now who I am, I believe in myself, and I know I’m going to win this tournament. This is what I can tell you. Nothing different to say. The guys, they need to already just know and live with this. They need to live with this. I’m going to be the champion, I’m going to win this tournament.”

Those four opening round fights comprised the bulk of the main card, with Samuel ‘Pirát’ Krištofič and Dominik Humburger headlining the show. Earlier in the night, meanwhile, Czech welterweight Andrej Kalašnik faced off against former title challenger Máté Kertész, looking to make his own run at gold.

The featured fight of the preliminary card, meanwhile, found champ Mallory Martin defending her women’s strawweight championship opposite Eva Dourthe. American Martin, an Invicta FC and UFC alum, had won three fights to start her run with Oktagon MMA and captured the promotion’s 115lb title opposite Katharina Dalisda back in October.

Promotion officials announced the opening round match-ups for the tournament on Saturday via press release. This year’s Gamechanger tournament kicks off in February, and familiar names like Ion Surdu, Andreas Michailidis, Krzysztof Jotko and David Zawada, among others.

Poland’s Krzysztof Jotko has been best known as a middleweight from his time in the UFC, but ahead of his Professional Fighters League debut at PFL 1 this Saturday, he’s enjoying the move to light heavyweight.

As Jotko put it, he’s able to eat a bit of candy now, since his weight is basically on point with an easy cut ahead. How easy? He might just pass a little gas to hit 205lbs on Friday.

“My weight was, for our camp, 218, close to 220. But when I come here, I was like 215 pounds, so now for today, I have 208,” Jotko (24-6) told Cageside Press during Thursday’s PFL 1 media day. “So tomorrow, I fart and I have 205.”

We’re not sure that’s a proper weight cutting technique, but it’s good to hear Jotko has an easy cut ahead. Chances are, he’ll need to make another one about six weeks later. Such is the pace of the PFL season.

While that might be a bit of a quick turnaround for some, Jotko appears thrilled with the PFL schedule. “I really like the season. So you’re planning fights for a year. This for me, it’s very nice, because I can plan all my year for training, for the fight,” he explained. “So this is awesome.”

Jotko also knows that points are important, as are the finishes required to get them in the PFL format. He won’t be forcing anything against opponent Will Fleury, however.

“I will be looking for the finish, of course. Everybody wants six points, or five points,” Jotko acknowledged. “But I don’t put pressure for myself to win this fight fast, because you can’t control this. And I will do everything that my opponent lets me do.”

A pair of somewhat surprising names are the latest to exit the UFC.

Askar Askarov and Krzysztof Jotko are no longer part of the promotion, Cageside Press has learned. Both fighters were removed from the UFC’s fighter database, as noted by automated service UFC Roster Watch.

Askarov (14-1-1), a potential contender in the flyweight division, had recently requested his release from the promotion, and stated he received a “positive” response in regards to the request. The release of the Dagestani fighter comes as a surprise, though as he noted on social media, his would-be fight with Brandon Royval was to have been the last on his current contract.

“Due to the fact that my return was delayed, for health reasons and this was my last fight under the contract, I asked the UFC to release me,” he wrote (translation via Google Translate). “To which I received a positive response. First, let’s put health in order, and then we’ll see what [comes next] and how.”

Askarov was to fight Royval on October 15, but the fight was scratched with the promotion citing “weight management issues” on the part of the 30-year old from Dagestan, Russia. Through five UFC fights, Askarov posted a 3-1-1 record, losing only to Kai Kara-France, and drawing with Brandon Moreno.

Jotko (24-6) joined the UFC in 2013, spending nine years with the promotion. Starting his career at 14-0, he suffered his first loss in just his second UFC bout, but went on to post a 11-6 record inside the octagon.

The Polish middleweight lost via submission to Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 61 earlier this month, and afterwards could be seen attempting to remove his gloves. That may have signaled retirement, though he was not given the opportunity to speak post-fight.

Jotko had built up a three-fight win streak prior to the Allen loss.

Middleweights Krzysztof Jotko and Brendan Allen faced off on the prelim portion of UFC Vegas 61.

Both men have been on the edge of the rankings for some time and have achieved impressive wins over formerly ranked fighters. In the build up to the fight the pair had bad blood between them, with Allen accusing Jotko of turning down the fight while the Pole denied that and said that Allen was “An annoying kid from the Louisiana swamp.” Each man came into the fight on the back of a winning streak, so something would have to give.

A slip allowed Jotko to get on top early in the fight. Allen attempted an arm-bar from his guard but Jotko was able to spin out of it and end up in half guard.

Jotko maintained a low base, not posturing up at all, and only occasionally did damage. Allen locked down Jotko for the most part until suddenly he exploded and executed a half guard sweep to get on top in the Pole’s full guard. The youngster, Allen, slammed Jotko back to the ground when he stood up and got into full mount immediately. Jotko was able to regain half guard, however.

Allen trapped Jotko’s arm next to his head and seemed to be setting up an arm triangle but Jotko was aware and defended. However, when Jotko turned to his stomach Brendan was able to take his back and immediately lock up a tight rear-naked choke, giving the Pole no choice but to tap. This extended Allen’s win streak to three and made him the first man to submit Jotko since the Pole’s second UFC fight, back in 2014. It was an overall impressive performance against a former ranked fighter that was sure to set up a big match-up for the young man.

Official Result: Brendan Allen def. Krzysztof Jotko by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 4:17
