Miami — What you make of Josh Hokit’s UFC 327 media day showing probably depends on how you feel about the theatrical side of MMA.
There’s always been a little “pro wrestling” vibe to the sport, with crossover stars like Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar, who did both. Yet Hokit (8-0), on Wednesday, tried to channel the late “Macho Man” Randy Savage (we think), throwing in plenty of “Yeahs!” and using a gravely voice to cut a Human Centipede-inspired promo.
“I’m going to take out the number four, and I’m going to saw off his head and put it on Alex Pereira’s body, and then I’m going to take number three and stitch it to the anus of number two. And then I’m going to take number two’s head and stitch it to the anus of number one, creating some type of human ‘centipet,’ where the Incredible Hok will put it on a leash and walk it in his front yard.”
Well then. The only problem in this scenario, aside from it might be lost on non-horror fans and saw Hokit flub a line or two, is that he’s actually fighting the #5-ranked Curtis Blaydes this Saturday at UFC 327. And, as he shifted from a wrestling spoof to a stereotypical Mexican parody, it became clear that he wasn’t, as they say in professional wrestling, “getting over.”
“What do you call a Mexican who doesn’t like protein powder? No weigh Jose,” quipped Hokit, to crickets. Ouch. Not a single question was fielded, so Hotkit never actually got to promote his fight, though he did manage to get the spotlight back on him with a confrontation between himself and Jiri Prochazka at the fighter hotel.
Using the same bit he tried earlier in the day (and sticking with the faux Mexican persona), Hokit promised to cut off Prochazka’s head, with a light saber, and stitch it to Alex Pereira’s body. Prochazka simply told Hotkit to “stay where you are.”
Jiri Prochazka and Josh Hokit just got into it backstage at UFC 327 media day 😳
🗣️ Jiri: “Man, stay where you are.”
🗣️ Josh: “I’ll cut you up homie. And f*cking stitch your head on Alex Pereira’s body.”

If all publicity is good publicity, then Hokit is getting ahead. Should he lose this Saturday, however, the impact is going to be that much greater given the amount of trash talk he’s been engaging in this week.
