Former title challenger Amanda Lemos was initially booked against Gillian Robertson back in December, only to see the bout pushed back to UFC Vegas 114 this Saturday.
The circumstances behind the postponement have never been fully clear, but Lemos (15-5-1) touched on the delay during Wednesday’s media day ahead of the card at the Meta Apex.
“In December, all of a sudden there was like a sore in my mouth that just appeared, and the commission opted to pull the fight off [the card],” stated Lemos, who sits in the #5 position in the UFC’s strawweight division. Robertson, for her part, is looking to move up from #8.
Lemos acknowledged on Wednesday that the delay was “pretty frustrating. You go through a full camp, get prepared to face a fighter like that, you’re ready to go, you make weight, then that happens.”
“Obviously it’s kind of a let down,” she continued. “But I don’t let it rattle me. Go back to the gym as soon as possible, started training and started getting ready for the next fight, which is now.”
One silver lining: Brazil’s Lemos had even more time to prepare for the bout. She spent it breaking down Robertson’s game even further.
“We improved things even more. We were able to study her game a little more. Just going to stifle her game, not let her impose what she wants to do, and come out with a win.”
