Welterweights Geoff Neal and Uros Medic served as the UFC Houston co-main event on Saturday, a fight that was a step up in competition, and further into the spotlight, for Medic.
The UFC’s reasoning seemed sound enough: Uros “The Doctor” Medic had never been to the judges, win or lose, in his career. Neal, meanwhile, was 1-3 in his last four, and looking to right the ship. He’d also revealed he’d been battling substance abuse during his career, often only sober for a few weeks before his fights, and had recently gotten his life back on course.
The striking party was opened early in this one, with Medic taking the center of the octagon, landing body front kicks to the mid section of Geoff “Handz of Steel” Neal before a fiery exchange of hooks between the two power punchers. Trading in the pocket, Medic was the first to the dance, landing a beautiful left hook right on the temple of UFC veteran Geoff Neal; putting his lights out in the first round of the fight.
Make that three straight first round finishes for Uros “The Doctor” Medic, who moves to 13-3 and 7-3 in the UFC. The welterweight contender now has #8 Leon Edwards in his sights, potentially at a rumored fight night in Belgrade, Serbia.
Official Result: Uros Medic def. Geoff Neal by KO (punches), Round 1, 1:19
