Ketlen Souza walked into UFC Vegas 113 with her back against the wall and walked out with her hand raised, and her trajectory reset. Snapping a two-fight skid with a victory over Bruna Brasil, Souza delivered the kind of performance that not only halted a slide, but reminded the division exactly why she was once viewed as a rising threat.
Souza (16-6) entered the bout riding a two-fight skid, with losses to Angela Hill and Piera Rodriguez. Facing the pressure of a potential third straight defeat, she stayed composed, disciplined, and locked in on the task at hand.
“There’s no pressure I think. It was actually asked in another interview as soon as I came out of the octagon like, ‘did you feel any pressure?’. No I did not,” Souza told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator at her post-fight scrum.
“What we wanted to do is just kind of talk to the coaches about the strategy that we had for this fight. All I needed to do is actually to listen to them and listen to my coaches and follow the plan. Sometimes it’s hard for a fighter to listen to their coaches execute on what they’re saying.”
“I want to be active. I like to train, I like to be in the gym,” she said before mentioning that she was medically suspended for contact, but not for long.
“My suspension was 30 days, but I’ll be back in the gym on Tuesday. I want to train so I can be fighting as soon as possible. I can put on a show, you’ve seen how I can put on a show, and I want to be in a numbered card.”
