Sulang Rangbo and Lawrence Lui kicked off Saturday’s UFC 325 card in Sydney, in a fight that also served as the bantamweight final of Road to UFC 4.
Which meant that, after 15 minutes or less, one of these bantamweights would officially become a UFC fighter.
It turned out the fight would indeed go the distance, with Lui getting the better of his opponent.
The action started hot and heavy, with Lui throwing Rangbo around, practically rag-dolling him early in the fight. Within minutes, Rangbo was battling back, putting the pressure on Lui. Who, in turn, absolutely cracked Rangbo.
Later in what turned out to be a 15 minute battle, Lui made the calculated decision to take the fight to the ground. When they returned to the feet, Lui was able to put the pressure on something fierce, leaving Rangbo backpedaling at times. Rangbo was able to circle out of harm’s way, but Lui seemed to be gaining an edge.
Round three saw the fight finish the way it started, with serious heat being thrown. An absolutely wild finish to the Road to UFC 4 bantamweight tournament. When the dust had cleared, it was Lawrence Lui winning the tournament and earning a UFC deal via split decision.
Official Result: Lawrence Lui def. Sulang Rangbo by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29)
