Brandon Moreno is wasting no time getting back to work after a recent setback.

After being stopped for the first time in his career last week at UFC 323 when he was put away by Tatsuro Taira, Moreno (23-9-2) has signed on to face Asu Almabayev (23-3) in the main event of UFC Mexico City this February.

Promotion officials announced the booking on Friday. Moreno sits ranked #4 in the promotion’s 125lb weight class, Almabayev at #7.

Prior to the loss to rising Japanese star Taira, Mexico’s Moreno had notched wins over Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg. The 32-year old is a former two-time UFC flyweight champion.

Almabayev, 31, has won his last two bouts, against Jose Ochoa and former title challenger Alex Perez. The Kazakh is 6-1 inside the octagon overall since joining the company in 2023. Prior to his UFC run, Almabayev competed for the likes of Brave CF and M-1 Global.

UFC Mexico City takes place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on February 28, 2026. The following fights have been reported for the Fight Night card, which will stream on Paramount+ stateside:

  • Brandon Moreno vs. Asu Almabayev
