Chris Duncan finds himself in a matchup that he’s anticipated for years as he faces Terrance McKinney at UFC 323 this weekend.
The fight follows back-and-forth social media exchanges that have been ongoing since their October 2023 bout was cancelled.
“It’s kind of like that girlfriend that never went away.” Duncan stated during Wednesday’s UFC 323 media day. “It’s definitely the fight I wanted. To make good fights, you need a good dance partner, and Terrance is that.”
Despite Duncan being happy with the fight finally coming to fruition, he maintains that all banter between the two has been friendly.
“There’s definitely no bad blood. There’ll be bad blood on Saturday night, I can tell you that.” After all, there are no friends in the fight game, he pointed out.
Having never seen the judges’ scorecards, McKinney poses danger for any opponent he steps into the cage with. 16 of his 17 wins have come by first-round finish, and Duncan plans to test that on Saturday.
“I feel he’s pretty one-dimensional in the sense that he hasn’t been out of the first round and won. If we get to see the second and third, you’ve seen from my last performance how hard I can push myself.”
Duncan is riding an impressive three-fight winning streak, claiming POTN and FOTN bonuses along the way. His last fight against Mateusz Rebecki showed Duncan’s willingness to brawl until the final bell.
Looking to improve to 6-1 in the UFC, Duncan feels that he’s better than he’s ever been. A win likely catapults him into the rankings, or at the very least, a ranked matchup next.
“There’s no excuses, this is the best camp I’ve ever had. And there will be no excuses if I lose, which won’t happen.”
