Matheus Camilo “A Soldier,” Ready When UFC Calls

New York, NY — Kicking off UFC 322 on Saturday was Matheus Camilo, who earned a unanimous decision victory over “Slava Claus” Viacheslav Borshchev.

Dual 30-27 scores and a 29-28 secured Camilo the first win of his UFC career; the Brazilian is now 1-1 inside the octagon.

The lightweight fight, and success, has Camilo (10-3) lined up for bigger things, especially after fighting at the famed Madison Square Garden. That said, it sounds like Camilo is willing to fight whoever is offered.

“I like to say I’m a soldier. Whenever the UFC calls me, I’ll be ready no matter what,” he told media outlets including Cageside Press. As for a return date, “February or April. Whatever. If some fighter pulls out, I’ll be here.”

Camilo admitted that there was a lot of adrenaline in play on Saturday, but called the night like living a dream. “It was a lot of adrenaline, because I dreamed of that since [I was] a kid. I’m living my dream right now, so it was a lot of adrenaline, but it’s good. I can’t control that.”

Securing his first UFC win, on such a big stage, “this means a lot to me. I’m so grateful to be here,” he later told Cageside Press. “It’s like a dream, I cannot explain it to you. Like when you’re a kid, and you dream of something. In Brazil, a lot of kids dream to be a soccer player. But since [I was a] kid, I dreamed to be a UFC fighter. That’s my first win, and it means a lot to me.”
