Randy Brown shared that he set up relief to help those in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa, and that the UFC joined his cause.
At the end of his media day on Wednesday, Brown took a second to shine some light on how the hurricane has affected him. Brown has a foundation, the Randy Brown Foundation, which has been helping kids in Jamaica for the past year.
“I have family that’s been affected and friends, so I decided maybe we can do something to help them. I created a foundation that’s been up and running for about a year. It’s more so to help the inner city youth and underprivileged kids to learn martial arts for free. To be able to train and potentially become MMA fighters.”
While the foundation isn’t set up for relief, that all changed once the hurricane hit. In light of the natural disaster, Brown took his charity further, now accepting donations to help with the damage.
“We decided to help with some relief, so we set up an account. We’ve been taking donations and everything, and the UFC stepped in as well. I asked them to match something I put in, and they went way above and beyond, past what I asked them to match. So I wanted to shout them out for that because they didn’t have to do that. If anyone’s interested, it’s called the Randy Brown foundation.”
With his fight having been moved from early October to now, it may have been a blessing in disguise. Brown now gets the spotlight of a Main Event with an opportunity to shed more light on the situation on the mic.
