Steve Garcia Blames 145 Holdup on Champion: “Volk’s Too Busy Cooking”

Steve Garcia is done waiting for the stagnant featherweight division to get going.

Garcia, who faces David Onama in the Main Event of UFC Fight Night 263 this weekend, rides a six-fight winning streak and finds himself on the verge of a top 10 ranking. Despite this, he is fighting down in the rankings against Onama, which all tracks back to one issue in his mind,

“Volk’s too busy cooking, so he’s holding everybody up at the top. He just needs to make a decision, just pick somebody, pull it out of a hat, cause they’re all waiting. Get the division going again.

When asked who he believes should fight for a title, Garcia went into detail, breaking down the situation.

“If you’re a purist, I think Movsar probably should get it. I don’t think people wanna see that guy get it. I don’t think the UFC wants to see him get it, but if you wanna do right by somebody in your company, you kinda have to. You just have to trust that the champ is going to do what he does and win that fight.”

With this being said, Garcia then came up with his own solution to fixing the featherweight title picture while pushing the division along.

“In my personal opinion, I think you need Yair and Diego to square off, Movsar and Lerone to square off. I wouldn’t say make it a tournament, but whoever won more decisively, at least in the UFC’s eyes, should get it,” Garcia firmly stated.

There is another, simpler solution that Garcia offered as well,

“Or Volk could just be like ‘I’ll fight ’em, that’s not hard either.”

Garcia doesn’t think he’ll hit the top 10 rankings with a win, but does recognize what a win can do.

“When I beat Kattar, I was 11, I think I get that spot again. But I think it would allow me to fight someone who is in the top 10.”
