The lone flyweight fight on the men’s side at UFC Vancouver sees #14-ranked Bruno Silva taking on Hyun Sung Park.
South Korea’s Park had been unbeaten as a pro before running into Tatsuro Taira on short notice. Park looks to bounce back against Bruno Gustavo da Silva, who has lost two straight following a four-fight win streak.
Silva immediately pressed forward and pushed Park against the cage, forcing an early takedown attempt from Park. Park managed to get Silva down, but was quickly reversed and controlled against the cage. A big rushing uppercut landed for Silva, who defended another takedown attempt successfully.
Both men continued exchanging quick combinations on the feet, with Silva defending another takedown before the bell rang.
Park opened up Round 2 as the aggressor, tracking Silva as he circled and landing a big counter right hand. Silva dropped Park with a winging left hook coming in, landing on top, but not being able to follow up. Park worked back to his feet and immediately continued on the front foot, winging wild hooks before being taken down. Silva got on top but struggled to pass guard before Park rose back to his feet, but only for a brief time, as Silva landed yet another takedown and ended the round in half guard.
Park came out hot in Round 3, pushing the action and flooding with combinations. Silva was retreating for a moment, but recovered and turned a caught kick into another takedown. Silva got to the back, actively looking for a rear-naked choke. Park did well to reverse out of the submission, but made the critical mistake of leaving his neck open while getting up. Silva rotated to the back and stood up on his feet with his arms wrapped around the neck of Park, forcing a tap in Round 3.
