UFC Vancouver’s Charles Jourdian: Twitter “A Mean Place,” But Social Media Has Brought Sponsorships

Vancouver — First-time pop Charles Jourdain is feeling the “dad strength” ahead of UFC Vancouver, with an eight-month old at home.

“I feel like I’m Super Saiyan too, because of it. You’re not only fighting for yourself, you’re fighting for something bigger,” Jourdain (16-8-1) explained during the UFC Vancouver media day on Wednesday. “More mature, stronger physically, mentally. It was a very fun world the last year.”

That last year has also included Jourdain’s younger brother, Louis, earning a spot in the UFC via the Contender Series. It’s been a good year in the Jourdain family, in other words.

While Louis had hoped to fight in Vancouver as well, “it was shut down by the doctor right after the fight,” Charles Jourdain revealed. Louis’s foot had blown up after his Contender Series win. Still, he’s hoping to fight on the same card as his brother at some point.

“That’s the plan. We’ve done it through [Canadian promotion] TKO. We’ve fought multiple times on the same card,” Jourdain noted, expressing no concern about the stresses of both brothers fighting on the same night. “Sometimes Louis fought, I didn’t, but being on the same card is just fun. It’s just memories, and we can cut weight together and live this experience together. When we’re going to be two old men on our chair talking about it, we’ll be very happy that we went to war together.”

Louis Jourdain joked recently that he wouldn’t post the kind of content online that brother Charles does, despite “Air” Jourdain gaining fans, and sponsors, thanks to his edgier presence on social media.

“It’s fun, and it gets me a lot of sponsors, a lot of fun opportunities. But I’m less Twitter. Twitter was a mean place, it was a dangerous place,” stated Jourdain.

The social media aspect, he added, is a compliment to his podcast, drawing fans in deeper. “They watch my podcast, especially in Quebec. I have a big, very big fandom in Quebec where young men are saying that I’ve inspired them to become a better version of themselves. I’m not a guru of course, but I’m proving to them that if me and Louis did it, you can do it. And it’s not only about sport, it’s about growing up as a man.”

That’s what led Jourdain and his brother to martial arts. “It was only that road to become a greater man, and it led me to the UFC because me and Louis were quite good at it. I’m happy I’m having a positive influence on the young men, especially in Quebec.”
