UFC Perth has been raked over the coals by both the media and fans this week, and while the card is undeniably light on star power, there is a compelling light heavyweight match-up sitting atop the marquee.
Carlos Ulberg has steadily been working his way up the 205lb division. Upon entering the UFC, he was more or less seen as one of “Adesanya’s guys,” but “Black Jag” has emerged as quite possibly the next UFC champion to come out of City Kickboxing. An eight-fight win streak with five finishes tends to spark that sort of talk, especially when that run includes an ex-champ like Jan Blachowicz.
Dominick Reyes once found himself in a similar situation, and now back on a win streak, he’s looking to jump past Ulberg potentially for a shot at the winner of Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira.
The rest of the card? With Junior Tafa out, it is on the thin side, but perhaps it will be another one that punches up — though that may be of little solace to fans paying premium prices for a sub-premium line-up.
Weigh-ins for UFC Perth take place Friday; results can be found below.
