Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland won’t be fighting anytime soon as he’s been suspended for 6 months following an altercation at Tuff-N-Uff in June.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission brought the punishment down on Strickland on Thursday.

The suspension stems from an altercation following teammate Miles Hunsinger’s loss at that Tuff-N-Uff event. Luis Hernandez defeated him and then did the crotch chop towards Strickland and Chris Curtis.

Both Curtis and Strickland stormed the cage with the former getting right into Hernandez’s face and the latter throwing punches.

NSAC did add a stipulation that the suspension could be reduced to 4 and 1/2 months should Strickland complete an anger management course approved by the commission. According to chairman Dallas Haun the former UFC champion accepted his punishment and apologized.

“Sean Strickland stepped forward. He made this process easy. He apologized for his behavior,” Haun said at the meeting.

“We appreciate someone stepping up, owning something and then a resolution could be come to quickly and with all parties in agreement. So again, our thanks to Mr. Strickland. He made a mistake and he’s owned it and we appreciate that.”

Along with the suspension Strickland must pay $157.04 in attorney fees.

Curtis was fined $2,500 for his involvement in the incident, but he was not suspended.
