UFC featherweight Joseph Morales had a super emotional fight at UFC 319 where a victory over Alibi Idiris resulted in him becoming The Ultimate Fighter 33 winner on Saturday night.
Morales (13-2) let it loose during his walkout screaming and roaring at the crowd with flags representing Mexico and the United States. It seemed as though the featherweight was taking it all in.
“I had my adrenaline dump backstage. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I cry before every fight,” Morales told Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“I just try to make peace with anything could happen in that cage and you kind of have to sacrifice your life to be victorious in there. Just accept anything that can happen.”
His family was a big part of fight week. Some of his family members saw him fight in the UFC on Saturday night for the first time.
“This is the first fight where my wife, my mom, and my oldest got to come. My baby stayed at home with my mother-in-law, but it’s the first UFC fight my family’s ever got to go to. It’s a big deal for me,” he said.
“Coming in here I won already. I was a winner. I got to bring my kid out here, his first UFC fight ever, and my wife got to come. My mom, all the sacrifices she made, driving me back and forth to the gym and everything that my family’s gone through when we were kids. It’s an amazing moment.”
One person was missing, but was definitely blowing up his phone.
“My dad couldn’t be here but, I know he was watching. He was super proud back home, he was texting me and calling me. Just giving me kind words,” he said.
“He’s the reason why I started getting into this sport. I just want to give a big shoutout to him too.”
