Chase Hooper entered UFC 319 on the heels of a big decision win over Jim Miller. That win marked his fifth straight, making him undefeated for nearly three years. The talented grappler looked to expand that against the always tough Alexander Hernandez on the UFC 319 prelims.
Hernandez came into the bout on a bit of a run himself. Back-to-back decisions against Ultimate Fighter finalists Austin Hubbard and Kurt Holobaugh had him rolling.
Out of the gate, the length of Cooper was the story. He landed some push kicks and largely stayed out of distance from Hernandez. Hernandez did start to get inside a bit and landed a few left hands. That would spark a takedown attempt from Hopper, but it didn’t bear fruit. More forward pressure from Hooper was helping matters, until he ate a big right hand that put him down. Hernandez followed up with the shots that brought at end to the fight just before the end of the first round.
Official Result: Alexander Hernandez def. Chase Hooper by TKO (Punches) – Round 1 (4:58)
