UFC flyweight Amir Albazi was supposed to be in the main event of UFC Vegas 108 this Saturday night against Tatsuro Taira, but was forced to withdraw just days before the event at the UFC APEX.

“I’m heartbroken to announce that I won’t be fighting on August 2nd,” the flyweight contender posted on social media.

“I finished my whole training camp and did everything I could, but I wasn’t medically cleared in time. The UFC and the commission made the call for my safety. I respect their decision even though I wanted to step in to that cage and take care of business,” he continued.

Albazi (17-2) was hoping to bounce back from a loss to Brandon Moreno last November against Taira at the UFC APEX. Unfortunately he wasn’t cleared in time to fight and had to withdraw.

“I’ll be back stronger and better. this is just a setback, not the end. Thank you to my fans, my team, and everyone who supports me through the ups and downs,” said Albazi.

Albazi was ultimately replaced by Hyun Sung Park against Taira. This marks the first time two Asian fighters headline a UFC event.

Lucky for Albazi the withdrawal had nothing to do with an injury so he’s likely to get booked again soon.
