During Saturday’s UFC Abu Dhabi broadcast, it was announced that the wait is almost over. Aaron Pico will make his highly anticipated debut for the UFC against undefeated Lerone Murphy at UFC 319.
The longtime Bellator standout will finally fight in the octagon after a grueling breakup with PFL. Once considered the biggest prospect in MMA, Pico was one of the many talents PFL kept on after their acquisition of the rival promotion. Like several of his colleagues, he wasn’t happy with his treatment and sought work elsewhere.
Known for his early finishing ability, the Jackson-Wink fighter will come to Chicago with a 13-4 record and nine finishes. Five of those finishes coming in the first round. As his performances suggest, Aaron Pico was highly accomplished in amateur wrestling and boxing before MMA.
He will have no easy introduction, taking on the number 6 ranked featherweight Lerone Murphy. “The Miracle” comes in with a perfect 16-0-1 record, showing growth fight after fight. With solid wrestling and boxing in his own right, Murphy has demonstrated a masterful transition and fluidity with his game, making him one of the best the UFC has to offer for the occasion.
Expect a physical chess match between the two, that could undoubtedly steal the show. With Lerone looking to limit the striking and wrestle the newcomer and Aaron looking flash his laser sharp hands, it has fight of the year material to watch for.
UFC 319 Main Event will feature a middleweight title fight between champion Dricus Du Plessis and undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev. The event takes place at the United Center in Chicago on August 16, 2025.
