Aaron Pico is understandably disappointed at seeing his UFC debut next week, scheduled against Movsar Evloev in the co-main event of UFC Abu Dhabi, cancelled.
Still, Pico (13-4) isn’t done chasing the fight, and is calling for a spot on UFC 319, which takes place next month in Chicago.
Addressing the cancellation of his promotional debut (due to Evloev withdrawing) and his opponent directly, Pico wrote on social media that he was “Not going to sugarcoat it.”
“I’m pretty disappointed you pulled out of this one. I get that things happen, and I truly hope whatever’s going on, you recover quickly.
“That said, my camps aren’t cheap, and I’m ready to get in there and put on a show sooner rather than later. I understand there’s an opening for us on August 16th in Chicago. We don’t get promotions for calling in sick.”
“I’ll see you in Chicago, [Movsar Evloev],” Pico finished.
A highly touted amateur wrestler and National Junior Golden Gloves boxing champ, Aaron Pico spent his entire career with Bellator MMA prior to it being absorbed by the PFL. While he came close to landing a title shot in that promotion, the PFL simply couldn’t seem to get Pico a fight and eventually released him earlier this year. He quickly signed on with the UFC.
