UFC Nashville’s Morgan Charriere: Conditioning Means Nothing If You Take Too Much Damage

French featherweight Morgan Charriere returns to action at UFC Nashville, where “The Last Pirate” runs into Nate “The Train” Landwehr.

Charriere (20-11-1) feels he has the edge in at least one department, he noted during Wednesday’s UFC Nashville media day: nicknames. “I think mine is better, but ‘The Train’ is good, and it fits him well,” he stated.

All jokes aside, Charriere vs. Landwehr has the makings of a Fight of the Night. Both men are known for exciting fights and post-fight bonuses. Charriere has three bonuses in just four UFC fights, for his part. Yet it’s the mental side of the fight game he believes will be key this Saturday.

“I think it will look more like a mind war against each other,” Charriere stated, adding that he believed whoever “gets in the head of the other one will win the fight, but I’m pretty sure I will knock him out.”

Asked about Landwehr’s conditioning, which many feel could be a difference maker, Charriere replied by saying that “I have great conditioning too. I’ve been inside a five round war.”

“I never had a problem with cardio, so we’ll see what the better conditioning [is]. I think conditioning is good, but if you take too much damage, conditioning means nothing, because you get finished and then that’s over. So I hope he has good conditioning, but maybe the better fighter will win.”

Should Morgan Charriere come away from UFC Nashville unscathed, September’s UFC Paris card looms. Fighting at home for his French fans would no doubt be of interest for Charriere. “I love my people, I think the French crowd is one of the best in the world, if not the best in the world,” he said.

“It would be a bit heartbreaking if I’m not fighting there, but you know it’s how it is. First I need to fight this Saturday against Nate, and then we’ll see after.”
