Undefeated LFA bantamweight Mitch McKee sees a shot at the UFC coming his way rather soon, but he’ll have to keep stacking up wins with an opportunity to add another one against Greg Fischer at LFA 207 this Friday night.
McKee (8-0) looks to put on a show against Fischer in Sioux Falls, but knows it won’t be an easy fight.
“He’s a good fighter. He’s very a well-rounded fighter. I’d say one of the best well-rounded fighters I’ve fought for sure,” McKee told Cageside Press.
“I think he’s one of those guys that’s really good everywhere. I just got to do my thing and stay locked in the entire fight for sure. Definitely don’t want to do something dumb and let him get my back.”
Fischer is one of the more experienced fighters that McKee has stepped into a cage with to this point. He makes his return to LFA after winning two bouts outside of the promotion, and taking some time off due to injury.
Even with the time away McKee isn’t counting him out going into the fight assuming he’s anything less than the best Fischer we’ve ever seen.
“He likes to switch stances, he likes to throw a big overhand left, a lot of his offense comes from his southpaw. I’ve watched a little bit (of tape) and I realize what he does, but I’m just ready to go in there and do my thing,” he said.
While also being a well-rounded fighter himself McKee’s bread and butter comes in the wrestling department. The former Minnesota Gopher’s long list of accolades include being an All-American in 2019, 2020 NWCA All-American and a three-time letter winner. He may not have entered the world of MMA had it not been for another fellow Gopher.
“I never really fully committed to like doing it (MMA) until I kind of had that opportunity after the Olympic trials in 2021 when Logan Storley called me and asked me to come down here (Kill Cliff FC in Florida) and check it out. It was always kind of in the back of my head, but I was just so focused on wrestling for so many years it never really seemed like something I was going to maybe do,” he said.
“Once I got down here and started training I absolutely fell in love with it. Just being able to use my wrestling so much in the sport, but at the same time getting back to that – I’m learning something every single day I feel like I’m growing every day.”
With a win over Fischer on a big card like LFA 207 could mean knocking on the door of the UFC. McKee wants to get to the biggest MMA promotion on the planet, but knows everything will come in due time as part of the process of growing as a person and as a fighter.
“I’ve been thinking about that the last week and…2025 I’m just ready for anything. As long as I’m not banged up I’ll be training the next week I’ll be ready to go,” he said.
“Whether that’s you know bac with the LFA again this summer or getting a short-notice with the UFC or going to the Contender Series. This year I’m ready to just lock-in and get as many fights that I can, and make it to that next level.”
