UFC light heavyweights Nikita Krylov and Dominick Reyes kicked off the PPV portion of UFC 314 on Saturday both hoping to keep win streaks alive and make their way up the 205 ranks.
Krylov (30-9) came into the fight on a 3-fight win streak with victories over Alexander Gustafsson, Volkan Oezdemir and Ryan Spann. Seems like the only reason nobody’s talking about Krylov is due to his 18-month absence from action. Opponent withdrawals and illness could be attributed to the break, but ‘The Miner’ returned against Reyes on Saturday.
Reyes (14-4) is famous for his title challenge against Jon Jones back at UFC 247 when Jones was still the light heavyweight king. Many fans still argue that Reyes won the bout. After going on a 4-fight losing streak, taking a lot of time off due to health issues, he put together two wins in a row against Dustin Jacoby and Anthony Smith. At UFC 314 he looked to take Krylov’s shine and get back into title contention.
Round 1 Krylov came out with his usual high pressure attack. Reyes was able to rock him a bit and hold him off with a slick jab. Reyes stayed composed keeping defensive focus unti he saw his openings.
Suddenly during a Krylov rush attack Reyes landed a nuclear left hook while backing up putting Krylov to sleep and securing a knockout victory at UFC 314.
Official Result: Dominick Reyes def. Nikita Krylov via R1 KO, 2:24
