LFA heavyweight Steven Asplund gets a fight on home territory against Raiden Kovacs at LFA 206 this Friday night in Prior Lake, Minnesota.
Asplund (4-1) scored a TKO victory at LFA 200 in January, but his first professional loss at LFA 193 forced the 26-year-old to look into the mirror.
“Felt really good to get back in the correct column after that Denzel (Freeman) loss. At the same time I had pretty stern talk with myself after we lost to Denzel. I think I’m very comfortable no matter what the outcome is no matter what the fight is,” Asplund told Cageside Press.
“I’m going out here to pour my heart and soul into this, hopefully put on a show, but that being said camp’s been fantastic. Every fight’s the next biggest fight of my life.”
At LFA 206 he gets Kovacs who comes in on a three-fight win streak, all finishes, making his promotional debut.
“I know Raiden’s a big guy. I know he’s got a three-fight win streak. One of my boys that actually fought him as an amateur I believe. So I’m prepared. Raiden’s going to try to take my head off and f*cking pitter patter me into the mat whatever his f*cking style is,”
“That ain’t happening.”
A win on Friday puts Asplund at two consecutive victories
“The only guy that’s been holding up rent in my f*cking head has been Denzel since that loss. I got a lot of respect for him, got a lot of love for him too, he’s a real standup guy. He called me out after his win so if the stars align. Maybe we can run it back for the contender series. I don’t know, I don’t care, I just want to fight his ass again honestly,” he said.
“I’m trying to make a f*cking impact. I’m trying to make a statement. I want people to hear my name and tune in.”
