Logan Storley: First PFL Season Was a “Learning Process,” Helped Growth As Fighter

Logan Storley called Magomed Umalatov a “talented guy” who is “good everywhere” at Tuesday’s PFL 1 media day.

One small problem. Storley (16-3) is no longer facing Umalatov tomorrow, as the PFL World Tournament kicks off in Orlando, Florida. Umalatov missed weight at Wednesday’s official weigh-in, leaving Storley instead facing Joseph Luciano in a welterweight quarterfinal at PFL 1.

This marks Bellator vet Storley’s second campaign with the PFL, and he learned a lot after his 2024 season, which saw him miss the playoffs after going 1-1.

“I don’t think I was competing where I should have been, and running at the level that I should have been, and it was a learning process. Obivously disappointed, but I think it made me grow as a fighter,” Storley told media outlets including Cageside Press in Orlando on Tuesday. “So we went back to the drawing board and really honed in on things, and so I’m excited to go out there and show those skills that have gotten better over the last year, and things that I’ve changed.”

The changes to the tournament, meanwhile, have not been lost on “Storm,” who noted the win and move forward nature of the PFL in 2025. There’s that, and there’s knowing who you’re facing next.

“You want to put on a dominant performance, you want to have your best performance every time you step in there. But now you know exactly what it looks like and who’s on the board, the bracket. So that makes it a little bit easier for us.”

That having been said, Logan Storley doesn’t have his heart set on any one opponent. “No, because when you’re a little kid, you go to a national tournament, and you start looking ‘okay, if I do this, and I beat this guy,’ that’s when mistakes happen. You start looking ahead. And like we’ve seen in MMA so many times, it don’t matter what the odds are. Anything can happen. It’s a fight.”

“I’ve got to be sharp from the start of the tournament. And that’s what we’re getting ready for. You fight like this is the world title fight. Each time you go up there, one shot, right? You don’t get a second chance.”
