Seattle – UFC middleweight Anthony Hernandez put on a real good poker face all fight week as he revealed at his post-fight press conference that he had been on antibiotics leading into UFC Seattle.
The victory over Brendan Allen by decision wasn’t his toughest battle on fight week.
“Let’s just say I got off amoxicillin Friday,” Hernandez told reporters including Cageside Press.
“So I felt like sh*t.”
Hernandez (14-2) still went a strong five rounds with Allen taking two out of three rounds in the judges scorecards. That was surprising so many who saw Hernandez look rough on the scale on Friday morning. He was the last fighter to make weight.
“The f*cking pills. The amoxicillin was holding weight. I talked to the PI people too and they said the same thing. When you’re on antibiotics it’s very hard to cut weight. While my body was trying to recover I’m trying to f*cking deplete it. It was just a nightmare, but I’m pretty f*cking tough between the ears and made it happen.”
Antibiotics weren’t the only issue Hernandez was dealing with heading into the fight.
“I’m not going to lie I messed up my ribs two weeks ago so my ribs were f*cked before. It was just like…thank God for the PI (UFC Performance Institute). They were here and they helped me every f*cking day,” he said.
“We got it to be good enough for the fight, and went out there and made it happen.”
“The first time I fought him I was just jogging for the fight because I was hurt too. I didn’t want to pull out just because I wanted to make a f*cking statement and I needed that #9 spot. I’ve been stuck at 13, 14 forever it feels like,” he said.
“I planned on coming no matter what, to fight.”
The win is nice, but the goal is the title. Hernandez made it clear that he won’t be satisfied until he gets his shot at gold.
“It’s a blessing (to have a higher ranking coming his way), but at the same time I’m still not happy,” he said.
“The only thing I want is the damn belt. All this other sh*t doesn’t really matter to me.”
