UFC Vegas 102’s Jose Delgado: “If You Don’t Know, Now You Know”

Las Vegas — If you don’t know, now you know. Those words rang true when Jose Delgado made his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 102, stopping Connor Matthews with ground n’ pound after dropping him with a nasty right hand.

“I saw some comments when Dana White posted yesterday, like ‘who are these guys?’ So like right away I was like ‘if you don’t know, now you know!’ It’s what I screamed, I probably screamed it too many times, but it’s what I screamed after, it’s what I felt,” Delgado (9-1) said after his debut victory, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press. “It’s alright, you guys don’t know, but I’ll show you guys. I promise you that.”

It was a huge debut for Delgado, who maintained his 100% finishing rate through nine wins. That felt great, acknowledged the 26-year old. “Absolutely,” he stated, before adding “I don’t put that pressure on myself going into the fight, ‘oh I got to keep this record intact,’ I got to do this or that. I just know that if I fight like how I fight, I use my tempo, my rhythm, that’s what happens.”

While UFC rookies are often relegated to Fight Night cards at the UFC Apex, Jose Delgado is hoping to get on a road show and fight in front of fans next.

“God I hope so. God I hope so. I love the crowd, I love people losing their minds. I feel like I put a little cheat code in my walkout song, it was an MTV Unplugged, so it sounded like a bigger crowd than there was,” Delgado exclaimed. “I love a crowd. Hopefully—I want a main card spot, I want everything man and if I’ve got to earn it, I’ll earn it. I’m not afraid of hard work, that’s all I’ve ever done, all I’ve ever seen, I ain’t afraid of that. But yeah, main card. I want to be must-see TV, and I think my style reflects that.”
