Las Vegas — Welterweight Gabriel Bonfim put the always dangerous Khaos “the Ox Fighter” Williams to sleep at UFC Vegas 102, and he wasn’t putting him down for a nap.
Bonfim (17-1) appeared on the Fight Night card alongside brother Ismael once again. And while things didn’t pan out for Ismael, it was another big victory for Gabriel Bonfim, considered a solid prospect at 170lbs.
“I’m very happy with everything I did today. It was a lot of work,” Bonfim told media outlets including Cageside Press following the victory, his second straight. “We were able to perform inside [the cage], so I’m very happy with that.” The former LFA champ is now 4-1 since joining the promotion off a 2022 Contender Series win.
The submission, a D’arce choke that came in the second round, was exactly how Gabriel Bonfim had envisioned the fight ending. “That was exactly it. I used a lot of my jabs to keep the distance and be able to close the distance as well. The submission, that was the actual game plan.”
Saturday saw Bonfim become the first man to finish Williams; Cageside Press asked the welterweight if that made the victory a little sweeter, along with putting him to sleep.
“I think so,” replied Bonfim. “I like the performance because of everything that happened in the first and second round leading up to the submission, and I hope I get the bonus.”
Past footage has shown the Bonfim brothers having some real wars when training together. That might have been toned down. A little, anyway. Maybe.
“We train a little lighter now, but every time we fight at home, we kind of like go crazy in the gym,” Gabriel Bonfim said with a laugh. Well, Brothers will be brothers.
