“Champions don’t show up to get everything they want; they show up to give everything they have.” And that’s what I’ll do every single time. No matter what! I love it all. Win, lose or draw, I’m right where I want to be.
“Doing what I love to do every single day of my life. I have the best people around me that love me for me. Living the dream! It’s all about the right mindset and life has taught me time and time again.
“I’ve experienced it all thrill, agony, happiness, heartbreak. That’s what life is all about. I’m blessed to have this life. And I’ll share these experiences with my children and the future generations to come.
“🙏🏻❤️ Thank you to my friends, family, teammates, coaches and fiancé for being there every single time no matter what. Love you guys! On to the next!”
Suarez (10-1) lost her bid at becoming a UFC champion when she dropped a decision to Weili in the co-main event in Sydney. The loss gave Suarez her first in her professional career.
The TUF 23 champion certainly didn’t fall to far back in the queue of strawweights hoping for shot at gold, but with so much time missed recently due to injuries, it will leave a bad taste in her mouth for a while.
Weili meanwhile secures her fourth title defense and the third in this most recent run as champion. Her first title defense came against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 before dropping the title to Rose Namajunas.
Weili regained it against Carla Esparza at UFC 281 in 2022 and has held on to the title ever since. Defenses against Amanda Lemos, Yan Xiaonan and now Suarez leave the champ waiting for the next challenger.
