Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland will have a hell of a crew in his corner come UFC 312 when he rematches Dricus du Plessis for the title. UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is expected to join Eric Nicksick in Strickland’s corner come Feb 8 in Sydney, Australia.
“We will have Alex Pereira in the corner so dropping the news right now,” Nicksick told The Schmo on YouTube.
“He’s a good friend of Sean. He’s a great training partner. Obviously, these guys have fought, but after the fight, I think it takes a man to go and learn from the guy who caught you with something.”
Pereira and Strickland fought at UFC 276. Pereira won the bout by knockout setting up a date with then champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. Pereira won that one by TKO.
Ever since Pereira and Strickland fought they’ve trained together helping the other get ready for their next fight. Pereira helped Strickland prepare for Adesanya bringing his expertise after a few fights against him in kickboxing and a couple in MMA.
Strickland returned the favor as Pereira got ready for Khalil Rountree.
“These guys trained with each other a ton. Sean went up there to help him get ready for Khalil Rountree and I love having him, man,” Nicksick said.
“It’s great energy so we just talked yesterday. We were going to have the fourth and it was going to be Alex so I can’t wait having him.”
