A high-profile middleweight match-up is being lined up for UFC Mexico City this March.
That fight is expected to see Joe Pyfer take on Kelvin Gastelum at the Fight Night event on March 29, 2025. The card takes place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
News of the booking was first reported by MMA Mania’s Alex Behunin. Pyfer had previously teased that he had fight news coming soon.
Gastelum (19-9, 1NC) will enter the fight off a June victory over Daniel “D-Rod” Rodriguez. Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 17, Gastelum is 2-3 in his last five, and saw the Rodriguez fight bumped to middleweight after he again struggled to make 170.
As for Pyfer (13-3), “Bodybagz” is coming off his own victory over Canadian Marc-Andre Barriault, also last June. The 2022 Contender Series winner is 4-1 since entering the UFC in a star-making turn on DWCS that saw Dana White infamously tell other fighters to “Be Joe Pyfer.”
Outside of the cage, Pyfer has continued to compete in grappling, earning wins over Eryk Anders, Gerald Meerschaert, and Nicholas Willey all while competing for the UFC.
UFC Mexico City does not yet have a main event announced or reported. Only two other fights have been revealed for the card thus far:
- Édgar Cháirez vs. C.J. Vergara
- Ronaldo Rodríguez vs. Kevin Borjas
- Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer
