The light heavyweight title was on the line at CFFC 138 on Friday, as Luke Fernandez looked to defend gold opposite challenger Gregg Ellis.

Fernandez, despite having just three fights as a professional, was 3-0 and building on an undefeated run as an amateur. He’d won the then-vacant Cage Fury FC light heavyweight title in December of 2023, stopping Peter New to claim cold. A pair of fights against Will Dicke earlier this year had fallen through, leaving Fernandez with an extended layoff, though he had taken (and won) a grappling bout with UFC star Eryk Anders in May.

Ellis had far more experience on the pro scene, and was moving up in weight after a loss to Kyle Daukaus for the CFFC middleweight title.
