Oktagon 64 featherweight Max Holzer has become a master of the walkout, heading down to the cage dressed as Batman, and Buzz Lightyear, among others.
Holzer (9-0) returns to face Eugen Black-Dell on Saturday in Munchen, Germany, putting his undefeated record on the line in the process. And he already has his walkout planned.
“My walkouts, I always get these ideas when I’m in training camp. I look at the opponent, and then I do something that, it has to be for my opponent.” Holzer explained in a recent interview with The Top Turtle MMA podcast on Cageside Press. “Next, I think I will do maybe something different.”
For Oktagon 64, Holzer had his plan set well in advance, and while he wasn’t expecting the “viral hype” of the past, he did expect it to “send a message.”
Holzer carries a rather interesting nickname with him into the cage: “Stifler.” American Pie fans should immediately recognize the reference; it’s the character Sean William Scott made famous in the comedy series.
So how did Holzer wind up with that particular moniker? “I did a lot of wild stuff when I was young, so my trainer decided to give me this name. I was always in trouble, and he said I looked a little bit like him. I had the same hair then.”
Holzer had seen American Pie, and was okay with the name sticking. “Everyone calls me Stifler in the gym, still today. Many people don’t even know my name in the gym. They think my name is Stifler.”
Germany’s Holzer admits that he didn’t know Black-Dell well before their fight was booked, but knows he has experience. That said, he’s predicting a finish on Saturday.
“It will end before the decision, 100%. I don’t know whether it will be a submission or KO/TKO, but I will finish him for sure.”
