Las Vegas — South Korean featherweight Doo-Ho Choi landed in the Hall of Fame for his classic tilt with Cub Swanson, but it’s easy to forget he’s still just 33.
There’s a lot of fighting ahead for Choi (15-4-1), who returned to the win column in July with a TKO victory against Bill Algeo. Incredibly, and in part due to mandatory military service in his native South Korea (not to mention COVID), the fight was just Choi’s fourth since the 2016 thriller with Swanson, and his first win since that same year.
Choi steps back in the cage for the second time in 2024 against Nate Landwehr at UFC 310 this Saturday, and he’s feeling honored to be part of the event’s main card, he told media outlets including Cageside Press during the event’s media day on Wednesday.
“It’s going to be a banger from the first fight of the main card for this event,” Choi predicted. “Banger” has been a word frequently used to describe Choi vs. Landwehr, by fans and fighters alike. It actually seems to be something Choi is aiming for.
“For my last two fights, I didn’t really have an opportunity to show a banger fight to the fans,” stated Choi. “So I’m going to grab this opportunity against Nate Landwehr, and I’m going to show a slugfest to the fans.”
The South Korean star also addressed what he’s changed in training since his last couple of fights.
“I think the biggest difference is probably cardio and my muscle power, and I really focused on the basics like striking defense. Like the basics. I think that’s probably the biggest difference compared to the past.”
