UFC Macau saw the promotion return to the “Special Administrative Region” of Macau, China for the first time in 10 years on Saturday.
Back in 2014, it was Michael Bisping and Cung Le headlining the show; in 2024, it was former bantamweight champ Petr Yan taking on ex-flyweight champ and now 135lb contender Deiveson Figueiredo.
With Umar Nurmagomedov likely receiving the next title shot against Merab Dvalishvili, who captured gold back in September, Yan vs. Figueiredo was arguably set to determine who was next in line. In particular, a Figueiredo victory would be his fourth straight since moving up to 135lbs, and cement him as a real player in the weight class.
A win for Yan would give him two straight, and inch him closer to challenging for his old belt.
The co-main event at UFC Macau found Tabatha “Baby Shark” Ricci paired up with recent title challenger Yan Xioanan. Ricci had a chance to establish herself as a player at 115lbs with her biggest match-up to date.
The Fight Night card also featured three Road to UFC 3 finales, at flyweight, bantamweight, and women’s strawweight. A UFC contract was on the line in each.
