A jury in a civil court found on Friday that UFC superstar Conor McGregor raped a woman in a hotel in 2018, and has awarded her £248,000 (roughly $300,000) in damages.
Reported by Sky News.
The jury deliberated for just over six hours before returning with their verdict.
The claimant, Nikita Hand, told the court that McGregor choked her three times and brutally raped and battered her. McGregor told the court previously that the sexual encounter was consensual in a penthouse of the Beacon Hotel in Dublin.
The injuries from the attack were described as bruising on her hands and wrists, tenderness to her neck, and a scratch on her breast.
One other man, James Lawrence, was also named in the suit. While Hand won her claim against McGregor she lost the claim against Lawrence.
McGregor (22-6) has not fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was supposed to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but dropped out due to injury. Since then UFC CEO Dana White has said McGregor is not expected back until late 2025.
McGregor is the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion. The first UFC fighter to hold two titles simultaneously he never defended either belt. Instead he took a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather before coming to back to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title.
